Inland Gauteng, the Vaal rules and people flock out each weekend to swim, ski, wakeboard, fish or just cruise, as they do on the many dams and lakes throughout the rest of the country. Along our abundant coastline, jet skis, power boats, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, diving, surfing, kite-surfing, sailing and more pump the adrenalin. It is impossible to do justice to each and every activity and every available supplier and model of toy that is available on the market, so we will merely whet your appetite. In our experience, the three Boat Shows held annually in Durban, Joburg and Cape Town are likely to be the best places to find out who the most reputable dealers are, and also to see which new toys have hit the market.
Tune in to some really good fishing shows on television and pick up the specialist magazines that deal with each hobby. We like the guys at Leisure Boating Magazine – they do some great reviews, and are as likeable as are the boys from ESA. For the sailor, Sail Magazine has become an institution, even though opinions vary on how likeable their boss may be. But then again, have you ever tried to pick a conversation with die-in-the-wool sailors? There’s a reason why they like to get far out on the water. Pack up the sun-screen, the sunglasses, the towels, the safety vests, the cooler box and head for the water. Summer is finally here and there is not a soul we speak to who is not glad this year is almost over. What a bitch it has been. You deserve a break to remember. Hell, we all do. Let’s twist again.
